Lake Suwa
A lake in the central part of Nagano Prefecture. During the severe winter, the entire surface of the lake is frozen over, and it rises up due to the temperature difference between day and night, which is called "Omiwatari" (God's Crossing). A geyser can be seen at the Kamisuwa Onsen hot spring on the eastern shore. The Suwa Taisha Shrine, which is the main Suwa Shrine, and Katakura-kan, a hot spring bathhouse built in the early Showa period by the thriving silk manufacturer Katakura Zaibatsu, are Important Cultural Properties nearby.
