Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Kushiro

Kushiro, located in eastern Hokkaido, developed with fisheries, coal mining and paper as its key industries. To the north of the urban area lies Japan's largest wetland, Kushiro-shitsugen, which is the first place in Japan to be registered under the Ramsar Convention. It is also known as the habitat of the red-crowned crane, a Special Natural Monument of Japan.
