Noto
A peninsula in the northern part of Ishikawa Prefecture. Mawaki Site, the ruins of a Jomon Period village, and the Nanao Castle Ruins, built by the Hatakeyama clan, the feudal governors of Noto Province, are designated as National Historic Sites. The former Matsunami Castle Garden with its dry landscape garden remains is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. It is also famous for Wajima-nuri, a traditional craft using the local specialty of diatomaceous earth, and for Wakura Onsen, with over 1,200 years of history.
