Tagonoura
The coast in the southern part of present-day Fuji, Shizuoka. In ancient times, it is said that Tagonoura referred to the coast west of the mouth of the Fuji River. It is known as a scenic spot with a view of Mt. Fuji along with white sands and green pines. As one of the most famous places for poetry, it has appeared in many waka poems since the time of the Manyoshu. It has also been depicted in travelogues such as Izayoi Nikki (The Diary of the Waning Moon) and Japanese ukiyoe woodblock prints.
