Mt. Yoshino
A mountain ridge in the central part of Nara Prefecture. It has long been famous for cherry blossoms, and it is said that there are 30,000 cherry trees blooming on the mountains. It is also known as a sacred site for mountain asceticism and as the site where the Southern Court was established during the Nanbokucho period. Mt. Yoshino, Yoshimizu-jinja Shrine, and Kongobuji Temple are registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site as "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range".
