This webpage presents an explanation of bibliographies and other tools available for finding materials in the Japanese language related to Religion in Japan. The tools presented here lead primarily to secondary sources and research literature rather than scripture or other primary sources.

4-1. Searching Literature

To find books related to a particular religion or sect, open NDL Search, click the Refiners button, and select Subject from Add Field, then enter the name of the religion or sect in either the Subject or Title field. To limit your search to bibliographies, enter the name of the religion or sect and the word “書目” (bibliography) in the Subject field.
Example: Enter “日蓮宗 書目” (Nichiren sect bibliography) in the Subject field.
